Porsche reveals its plans for 2021

Like every year, Porsche a organisé sa traditionnelle Night of Champions (Nuit des Champions dans la langue de Molière). Pandémie oblige, l’évènement s’est tenu virtuellement. Au cours de celui-ci le constructeur allemand a dévoilé ses plans en WEC, IMSA, GT or even Formula E for the next year.

Unsurprisingly, Porsche has reiterated its commitment to Formula E. The German firm announces that it is arriving with “big objectives” for its second year in the discipline. The engineering team has “considerably improved the transmission” especially in preparation for the new season. André Lotterer and Pascal Wehrlein will be at the wheel of the manufacturer's two Porsche 99X Electrics. Simona da Silvestro and Neel Jani will be reserves.

Concerning endurance, Porsche plans to continue to enter two factory 911 RSRs in the world championship (WEC). The Stuttgart firm has nevertheless made changes within its crews. If Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Leitz will once again share the No. 91, Kevin Estre and Neel Jani (replacing Michael Christensen) will be lined up in the No. 92 as we revealed to you.

As for the official line-up, many departures have been noted: Nick Tandy, Earl Bamber, Patrick Pilet, Michael Christensen, Sven Müller and Dirk Werner. The first city was not renewed and has already found a buyer sincehe signed up with Corvette Racing in IMSA as previously announced in AUTOhebdo N°2287.

Earl Bamber will also bounce across the Atlantic since he will be behind the wheel of a 911 GT3 R from a customer team in the GTD category in IMSA. The New Zealander will be supported by Laurens Vanthoor and Patrick Long.

The Kiwi will also be entered in GT World Challenge Europe, still aboard a 911 GT3 R. Michael Christensen and Frédéric Makowiecki complete the crew this time.

Porsche also took advantage of this Night of Champions 2020 to announce the new 911 GT3 Cup. In addition to being used during the Porsche Supercup (support series of the F1), this new vehicle will be entered in the Carrera Cups in Germany, France, Asia, Benelux and for the first time in North America.
