Suffering from engine problems, Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) sank, losing 7 laps to leader Kyle Larson (Hendrick Motorsports) while his teammate Martin Truex Jr., after a few laps led, struggled with poor chassis balance. The early performance of the race was signed by Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports) who moved up to fourth position after being relegated to the back of the grid for failing twice during pre-race technical inspections.
