C2 – Vervisch winner, Muller gets closer to leader Tarquini

The final of the WTCR championship is scheduled for Sunday at around 4 a.m. French time.

Macau and Tourism are always explosive. Race 2 of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) in the early hours of Sunday lived up to this reputation, with crumpled sheet metal and a squeeze at the top of the general classification.

Starting from third row thanks to the principle of the reverse grid, Frederic Vervisch (Audi) made the jump on Kevin Ceccon (Alfa Romeo) on the first lap, before overtaking Timo Scheider (Honda) on the fourth lap. The Belgian from Comtoyou Racing thus signs his first success of the season. There are now 15 different drivers to have received the winner's trophy in 2018!

Timo Scheider (Honda), who races under an Austrian license but is indeed of German nationality, had the guts to resist Yvan muller (Hyundai) despite his inexperience in Tourism. The former champion DTM defended his second position well at the end of the race. The Frenchman had to settle for the last step of the podium.

The Alsatian, however, carries out an excellent accounting operation. The boss-driver is just 18 points behind leader Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai), who retired after a classic in Macau, the braking pile-up in Lisboa.

In this commotion, Yann Ehrlacher (Honda) was stamped by Pepe Oriola (Cupra). The Frenchman was lucky to be able to leave without too much damage, while the Spaniard caused a chain reaction where Rob Huff (Volkswagen), Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai) and Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) gave up.
