Frédéric Vervisch wins at the Slovakiaring

Frédéric Vervisch (Audi) claimed his second WTCR victory, his first of the season, by winning the first race of the weekend at the Slovakiaring after starting from 9th position. Despite a few drops of rain, the track remained dry at the start. The Belgian made a superb flight to follow the wheels of Ma Qing Hua (Alfa Romeo) before finding the opening on the Chinese.

Mikel Azcona (Cupra) and Luca Engstler (Hyundai) completed the Top 10 ahead of Yvan Muller (Lynk & Co) who beat the British Gordon Shedden (Audi) and Rob Huff (Volkswagen). Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co) finished 22nd ahead of his teammate Thed Björk last ranked.

Aurélien Panis (Cupra) was on course to finish in the points before being hit by Medhi Bennani (Volkswagen). Both drivers had to retire.

Despite his retirement due to contact at the start, Nestor Girolami (Honda) retains the lead in the Drivers' standings with 7 points ahead of his teammate Esteban Guerrieri.
