Guerrieri on pole for Race 1 in Marrakech

Stephen Guerrieri (Honda) starts 2019 as he finished the 2018 season : go all out! The Argentinian from Münnich Motorsport took pole position on Saturday April 6 in Marrakech (Morocco) and will start in first place for Race 1 (start at 17:50 p.m. French time). This is Esteban Guerrieri's first pole in the discipline.

“It would be nice if all the qualifiers were like this, joked Esteban Guerrieri. I was able to register my time very early in the session, and I just waited in the pits. I don't remember the last time I did this strategy. Everyone tried to beat me as the sun got stronger, but I think it was too hot by then. »

Credited with the second time, Yvan Muller (Lynk & Co) however suffered a cold sweat. WTCC title record holder loses engine oil after climbing over bean curb at chicane. Forced to wait in his garage for most of the session, the Alsatian did well because he did not lose any place despite this incident.

“My engine is not in the best shape, maybe it will need to be changed », indicates the Frenchman.

The Cyan Racing team is making a good return to World Tourism as their favorite driver Thed Björk sets the third fastest time. Nestor Girolami (Honda, 4th) is getting back into shape after a one-year break. What can we say about Andy Priaulx (Lynk & Co), fifth for his comeback after 9 years of absence!

The outgoing WTCR champion by Oscaro Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai) got out of a bad situation by moving up to sixth place at the last minute. Jean Karl Vernay (Audi), long in the top 3, slipped to seventh place. Yann Erlacher (Lynk & Co) will start ninth. Finally, Aurelien Panis (Cupra) falls into line (15th) after notable Free Practices.

Several punctures once again marred the session. Attila Tassi (Honda) suffered two punctures, Rob Huff (Volkswagen), Frédéric Vervisch (Audi) and Ma Qing Hua (Alfa Romeo) each punctured a tire.
