Kristoffersson and Leuchter on pole for the C2 and C3 at the Nürburgring

The northern loop of the Nürburgring, the Nordschleife (Germany), always has surprises in store. This Thursday, June 21 in the evening, the second qualifying session saw the Sébastien Loeb Racing take the two pole positions for Races 2 and 3. However, it was not a foregone conclusion!

The first factor of uncertainty was the condition of the track. Initially wet, the roadway then warmed up, revealing a dry trajectory. However, due to very wet shoulders, several overly optimistic drivers hit the rail, such as Nicky Catsburg (Hyundai) et surtout Daniel Häglof (Cupra).

It was the latter's accident that would cause quite a bit of suspense. THE code 60 (forcing drivers to drive at 60 km/h in a specific sector of the circuit) was introduced, while all drivers were in a situation of improvement. Despite this forced slowdown, Benjamin Leuchter (Volkswagen) was the fastest, beating his SLR teammate Rob Huff by one second and four tenths.

The leader of the general classification and poleman for Race 1, Esteban Guerrieri (Honda), sets the third time. The SLR was a complete success in this session because Johan Kristoffersson (10th time) will start on pole for the Race thanks to the reverse grid principle.

The first Frenchman is Aurélien Panis (12th), followed by Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi, 15th and penalized for Race 1). Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co) recorded the 17th time, Yvan Muller (Lynk & Co) is 20th.
