Having suffered in the qualifying exercise since the start of the season, Yann Müller can take a weight off his shoulders. This Saturday, the Frenchman raised his voice to set the absolute benchmark during Q3, thus winning pole at Pau-Arnos.

« If there was one pole position I wanted in the season it was this one, savored the man from Cyan Racing. It feels good. This race was obviously not planned at the start of the season since we should be in Asia at this very moment. Due to the current situation we are finally here so that's a good thing. I am delighted with the pole position but also with the pace of the car and the work of the team. All members deserve it."

If he is on pole for the main race of the French meeting, Yvan Muller is also under threat from Hyundai of Jean-Karl Vernay (2nd) and Norbert Michelisz (3rd) who should not make his task easier this Sunday. However, the Alsatian sees it more as an advantage than a disadvantage given the difficulties of overtaking on this track.

« The first good news is that they are behind me. It's already a good point, he points. I need to get off to a good start. If I succeed, that will be a second good point. If I can then stay in the lead during the first part of the race, I wouldn't say it's done but it could be a good omen. We'll see. A lot of things can happen in a race. For now, let's enjoy this pole before working on the car settings for Sunday."

Relegated to the peloton in Race 1, Yvan Muller hopes above all to limit the damage in order to be in the best possible conditions for the most important event of the weekend. “ It is important to protect the car for Race 2 which can be complicated with the first corner. A lot of things can happen in the chicane as we saw at Most. I hope everyone stays calm but there is always one who stands out."
