V8SC – Courtney wins, Whincup takes the reins

Winner of the first two races at the Ipswich meet in Queensland, Australia, Jamie Whincup (Holden – Triple Eight Red Bull Racing Australia) certainly did not win the third round contested this morning (6th at the finish), but took advantage of the setbacks of Mark Winterbottom (Ford – Pepsi Max Crew), victim of a puncture during the race and 22nd under the checkered flag, to take the lead in the championship for the first time this year with a 15-unit lead at the end of this meeting. Several other drivers experienced punctures, such as Scott McLaughlin (Volvo).

It was another Holden Commodore, that of James Courtney's Holden Racing Team, which finally won, in a race which gave pride of place to strategies. We notably saw Craig Lowndes (Holden – Red Bull), 2nd at the finish, stop on the second lap just like Fabian Coulthard (Holden – Lockwood Racing). Chaz Mostert (Ford) completes the podium.

The next round of V8 Supercars will take place from August 22 to 24 in Sydney, Australia.
