WTCC – Bennani wins main race in Hungary

Mehdi Bennani (Citroën) wins his first victory of the season by winning at the end of the main WTCC race at the Hungaroring in Budapest. The pilot of the Sébastien Loeb Racing took the advantage at the start before being caught by pole sitter Rob Huff (Citroën), but the Moroccan was again able to take control of the race when the Münnich Motorsport resident suffered a drive through for causing a collision between Volvo drivers Nicky Catsburg and Nestor Girolami, causing the latter to retire and the safety car to enter.

At the restart, Mehi Bennani was able to resist the pressure from Nicky Catsburg and win with a lead of 6 tenths over the S60 TC1. Tom Chilton (Citroën) completes the podium after the Sébastien Loeb Racing driver took the advantage at the start over the Honda of Norbert Michelisz who is ahead of his teammate Tiago Monteiro in 5th. This top five is enough to allow the Portuguese to consolidate his lead in the Championship.

Starting from 3rd place, Esteban Guerrieri (Chevrolet) gradually fell to 6th position. The Campos Racing driver beat Thed Björk (Volovo). Yann Ehrlacher (Lada) followed in 8th place ahead of Tom Coronel (Chevrolet). Rob Huff saved a top ten after observing his penalty. John Filippi (Citroën) failed to score points. Aurélien Panis (Honda) ranked 14th.
