Citroën Racing will leave the WTCC at the end of the 2016 season after dominating the World Touring Car Championship during its three years with the C-Elysée. In addition to its Drivers' titles won by José Maria Lopez, the Chevron brand was able to count on the Alsatians Yvan Muller and Sébastien Loeb (the first two seasons) in his quest.
“With this third consecutive FIA WTCC World Champion title, we achieve our objective and we will be able to complete this program on the circuits with the feeling of accomplishment. Beyond the symbol, we are very proud to obtain this result in China, Citroën's leading market in the world.", welcomed Yves Matton, director of Citroën Racing.
“We knew that we would not play an easy game in 2016, with a squad reduced to two official cars, penalizing regulations and sharper adversity. The whole team worked calmly to exploit the potential of the car and the drivers. The SLR team must be associated with this result. In addition to Jose Maria Lopez and Yvan Muller, Mehdi Bennani and Tom Chilton brought us valuable points, particularly during the reverse grid races… Before celebrating this new title, the sixteenth for Citroën, we will concentrate on the races to aim for new victories”, added Yves Matton.
Citroën Racing will take on the rallies again in 2017 with its new C3 WRC.
