This weekend, the World Touring Car Championship stops in Thailand at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, for the first time the WTCC comes to this country. This penultimate round of the season will offer a first match point for Jose Maria Lopez, current leader of the general classification with 75 units ahead of Yvan Muller.
The Alsatian is the only one who can still play for a title which however seems promised to the Argentinian who approaches this meeting with caution and will not try the impossible to seek victory. “I prepared well for this event and I know how many points I have to score to become World Champion, admits the Citroën driver.
Obviously, when I sit in my Citroën C-Elysée, it is to obtain the best possible result. But this weekend my only goal will be to win the title. It would be nice to achieve this with a victory, however I will make sure to stay out of the race to score the points I am missing. »
The Buriram route also seems to offer a challenge which should be complicated by the weather conditions. “The track is wide, with asphalted areas: you will have to be careful to respect the limits of the race route. The last point that seems essential to me concerns the weather: it will not only be very hot, but also humid. The conditions will undoubtedly be the most difficult of the season" López concludes.
