WTCC – Argentina to open 2015?

Argentina and the WTCC are creating a beautiful love story. Citroën's albiceleste driver Jose Maria Lopez has dominated the championship since the start of the season in Marrakech and the championship will make its next trip to the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit on August 3. We knew the passion of the Argentines for WRC, with spectators massing along the stages of the event for many years, but the WTCC seems to be on the same wavelength in a country which will host the Dakar again next January. A real passion for motorsport in this nation where football is king which makes the WTCC promoters think about a change of calendar for 2015.

?I find it hard to believe that a country other than Argentina is so interested in Touring races, declares François Ribeiro, head of operations at Eurosport Events. It will be one of the most important meetings on the WTCC calendar, especially as an Argentinian driver is currently leading the championship. Few drivers from outside Europe can currently claim to become World Champion. José-Maria Lopez has the opportunity and I think many fans will attend the races next month. The circuit is now fully approved by the FIA and FIM, we have good promoters and government support. These are valuable details and this is why the WTCC is considering the opportunity to organize the first round of the 2015 championship there.

This season, it was Morocco which opened the debates in the WTCC.
