Sabine schmitz and the Nürburgring, it’s a story that has been going on for many years. The 45-year-old German knows the famous Nordschleife perfectly, having notably won the 24 Hours in 1996 and 1997. An invaluable experience on this 25 km long circuit, which led the team Munich Motorsport to trust him for the two rounds of the WTCC organized on May 16.
“I am really happy to have the opportunity to take part in the WTCC, Schmitz explains. In my eyes, this is the best racing series we have. I could have started in the championship one race earlier, but unfortunately, it didn't fit with my schedule. The WTCC test day on the Nordschleife on April 28 will be very important and good for my preparation. I will remain realistic with my goals for the races. There are some very good drivers on the grid and even though some of them don't know the Nordschleife perfectly, they are the best touring car drivers in the world. But maybe the weather will be on my side. I like driving on the Nordschleife when it rains and it happens a lot. »
Sabine Schmitz will be driving a Chevrolet Cruze TC1 next May.
