WTCC – Tiago Monteiro withdraws from China

Following his serious accident during testing last month, Tiago monteiro did not have the medical green light to take part in the next WTCC race in China at Ningbo International Speedpark this weekend.

« I'm really disappointed not to be able to race in China, laments the Portuguese. As a team with Honda we have worked very hard to be at the front of the championship and this is a real disappointment for everyone. Unfortunately, the human body is what it is and despite the exceptional efforts of my medical team, I need more time."

Tiago Monteiro will be replaced by Gabriele tarquini, the 2009 champion making his return to the team that hosted him between 2013 and 2015.

« I'm happy to be back with Castrol Honda WTCC this weekend, adds the Italian, although I would have preferred it to be done under better circumstances. Tiago is a fantastic driver who deserves to be at the top of the championship and it's a shame he can't be there this weekend."

No return date has been set for the Portuguese who still has a 12-point lead over Thed Björk.
