WTCC – Yvan Muller, fourth pole position in a row in Porto

This is the fourth in a row. Yvan Muller once again took pole position in the streets of Porto, scene of the 7th meeting of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) season. The three-time Alsatian world champion, who set his best time in 2:05:347, is at the head of a trio of Chevrolet Cruze 1.6Ts. Tom Chilton, his RML teammate, is 2nd. The Briton, who made a mistake this morning during free practice, made a strong impression and almost dethroned his illustrious leader. Michel Nykjaer, definitely in good spirits this season, completes the top 3.

In the only private Honda Civic on the field, Norbert Michelisz, from Zengo Motorsport, posted the best performance for the Japanese brand. Tiago Monteiro was unable to get past Q2. The local hero, who was born in Porto, will start 17th. This is a very big disappointment for a public entirely committed to his cause.

A timing error unfairly penalized Gabriele Tarquini (Honda) and Pepe Oriola (Tuenti Racing Team) during the second qualifying session in Porto. The Italian is allocated fifth position on the grid while the Spaniard will start alongside him in sixth place. James Thompson (Lada) is the big loser as he falls from fifth to seventh position. Tom Coronel (Roal Motorsport) slipped to 11th and lost pole for the second race which now went to James Nash (Bamboo Engineering).
