Yvan Muller: “Difficult weekend”

Winner of one of the two races in Curitiba in March, Yvan Muller arrived in Marrakech as leader of the championship, tied with his former teammate and reigning World Champion, Gabriele Tarquini. But, on this very demanding urban circuit, the slightest mistake cannot be forgiven.

Fifth at the end of qualifying, somewhat hampered by traffic, the Frenchman was unable to benefit from a clear lap to better position himself on the grid. After the start of the race, he quickly found himself sixth, unable to catch up with the three SEATs preceding him.

Third on the grid for the second race according to the reverse grid principle, the 2008 World Champion took advantage of Norbert Michelisz's stall to place himself just behind the leader, Andy Priaulx.

This race having been neutralized during eleven of the thirteen laps, Yvan Muller did not have much opportunity to seek victory. During the restarts following the two accidents, the Frenchman tried to catch Andy Priaulx but in vain.

« The whole weekend was difficult, confides Yvan Muller. It?s so easy to make a mistake on this circuit. I managed to keep the car on the track and score important points for the championship. It?s difficult to say if, without the safety car, I would have been able to overtake Priaulx. It would have been difficult because we were going more or less at the same speed. »

After these two races in Marrakech, Yvan Muller is now second in the WTCC standings, seven points behind Gabriele Tarquini.
