We will no longer talk about BMW i Andretti in 2022, following the announcement of the end of the official Munich program in Formula E, but the American team will still be able to count on the powertrain developed in Germany for the next season of the 100% electric series.
BMW Motorsport confirmed this Friday the supply of the in-house eDrive03 powertrain to the Andretti team, which will line up as an independent outfit for the eighth global Formula E campaign.
“The choice to continue with BMW as powertrain supplier for Season 8 was easy, specifies Roger Griffiths, Team Principal of Andretti Formula E. Over the last two seasons of the official program, we have won four victories, demonstrated real reliability and excellent efficiency.
The team understands the operational aspects of the BMW Racing eDrive03 well and it is therefore expected that Andretti Formula E can be very competitive for the final season of the Gen2 era. »
Gen3 of Formula E will begin in 2023, the ninth season of the championship, notably with the return of Williams Advanced Engineering for the supply of batteries, which may be provided with a fast recharge.
