Bird will start on pole for the Marrakech ePrix

Sam bird (Virgin) took the fifth pole position of her career in Formula e, Saturday January 12 in Marrakech (Morocco). The Briton handled the Audi powertrain to first place in qualifying, showing the potential of the German product.

The third of the 2017-18 Formula e season drove 46 thousandths faster than the outgoing champion Jean-Eric Vergne (D.S. Techeetah). The winner of the first event in Saudi Arabia Antonio Felix da Costa (BMW i Andretti) will start third (+0”137).

Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams), Alexander Sims (BMW i Andretti) and Mitch Evans (Jaguar) complete the top 5 in Super Pole. The good surprise of this session comes from Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra). The German debutant is almost in the Super Pole phase. The former pilot of Formula 1 will start seventh.

Among the disappointments were the missed times of André Lotterer (DS Techeetah, 20th) and the mechanical problems of Maximilian Günther (Dragon, 21st) and Stoffel Vandoorne (HWA Racelab, 22nd).

Finally, a curious collision occurred at the entrance to the pit lane between Tom dillmann (NIO, 18th), Robin Frijns (Virgin, 8th) and Sam Bird. “I no longer had any brakes, either I hit a marshal, or I hit Robin, defends the first named. I preferred to hit the car. My brake pedal was hitting the ground, I had nothing left. »

The Marrakech ePrix will be followed from 16 p.m. French time.
