Bruno Michel: “Gaining performance”

After the first 2009 tests, what is your opinion of this fifth vintage?
“The first three days of testing were positive. Our 2009 kit proved reliable and competitive from the start. Every day we broke circuit records in all configurations. One of our objectives was to improve performance. It is therefore a success. The entry list is very interesting with experienced drivers and extremely talented rookies. Our championship has never been in such good health. I am sure that we will have a very good season. »

What assessment do you draw from the first four seasons?
“When we launched this project in 2005, we had one objective: to allow talented pilots to show their abilities to go to F1. Five years later, I feel that we have accomplished our mission with seven drivers from GP2 currently in F1. This figure alone shows that we are best placed to allow drivers to access F1.

La Formula 2 will it compete with GP2?
" Absolutely not. As a curtain-raiser to the Formula 1 races and with the level of performance of our single-seaters, no category can compete with us to allow a driver to access F1. In reality, Formula 2 is becoming a new series which will allow drivers to access GP2. Drivers aiming for an F1 drive in 2010 must be in GP2 this season, not elsewhere. The fact that some F2 drivers will obtain a Super-License will not make them F1 drivers. For a driver to arrive in F1, he must first get noticed by a team and there is no better place than GP2 for that. »
