Buemi winner in New York, Vergne will have to wait for the title

Starting from pole position, Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) dominated the entire first race of the New York ePrix this Saturday evening, to achieve its first success in 2018-2019 and offer a first victory to Nissan in Formula E.

An event marked by a number of incidents on the track, which notably involved Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah), further delaying the Frenchman's possible second coronation.

After the start where behind Buemi, Alex Lynn (Jaguar Racing) moved up to second position ahead of Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra Racing), the second lap was immediately marked by a collision between Sam Bird (Virgin Racing) and José Maria Lopez (Dragon Racing ).

Behind, the pile-up caused the main victims of the two DS Techeetah drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and André Lotterer, the Frenchman damaging the front left of his car by hitting a Jaguar.

Forced to return to the pits, the Frenchman plunged in the standings. Having spun and driving a car with a largely damaged front, Lotterer was also knocked out.

Lynn unhappy, Vergne will have to wait for the title

Despite debris from Lotterer's car scattered around the track, the race continued with Buemi leading ahead of Lynn. The latter will be the other unlucky one of the event, forced to stop on the track following a technical problem.

The safety car is deployed, bringing together a peloton led by Buemi ahead of Alexander Sims (BMW i Andretti). On the restart, the Swiss remained in the lead, and would maintain his position until the finish.

The world champion WEC and winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans in the end ahead of Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing), who started 13th and came back superbly after taking the advantage over the BMW i Andretti of Antonio Felix da Costa, 3rd at the finish, and Sims.

The top 5 is completed by Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler), back in fifth position after making his way through the peloton.

The Brazilian automatically delays the potential coronation of Jean-Eric Vergne, since the Frenchman only takes 15th place after an end to the event marked by contact with Felipe Massa (Venturi), an incident placed under investigation. Tom Dillmann (NIO) was forced to retire, as was Robin Frijns (Virgin Racing).

Before the final race of the season tomorrow on the other side of the Atlantic, Vergne is 22 points ahead of di Grassi, who reduces his delay by ten points, 25 over Mitch Evans and 26 over Sébastien Buemi, who can all still be titled.
