Schedule approved, some changes announced

The 2019-2020 season will be the second with the second generation of single-seaters, which has made it possible to seriously increase the credibility of the discipline, with drivers no longer needing to change positions. car during the test.

The first news concerns the calendar, confirmed. The season will open in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before a second round at an unknown destination, while it is now London which has the honor of closing the proceedings. No changes for the Paris E-Prix on April 18.

A calendar which should have repercussions on the program of several pilots, since offering three clashes of dates with the World Championship ofEndurance WEC : Bahrain, Sebring and Spa. We think in particular of Sébastien Buemi, Nissan e.dams driver in FE et Toyota in WEC.

Sportingly speaking, some changes too:

– During a race suspension, the timing system will stop, unless otherwise indicated by the race director, for the purpose of completing the full race time.

The fastest driver in each qualifying group will score one championship point.

Maximum power increases from 225 kW to 235 kW in Attack Mode.

Activation of Attack Mode will be prohibited during a Full Course Yellow or safety car intervention.

1 kWh will be subtracted from the overall energy available for each minute spent under Full Course Yellow or Safety Car, from the moment the course is neutralized.

Finally, the approval of the Gen2 will be extended until season eight (2021-2022) for reasons of cost control, a decision which will delight the manufacturers arriving next November, namely Porsche et Mercedes. Planned developments such as increased power, improved battery performance and design are therefore postponed.

Finally, last modification and not least, from next season, the maximum number of MGUs will be limited to one and no longer to two, which will force Nissan to change its concept.
