Callum Ilott will not go to Formula 1 in 2021

He started talking about it on Friday, after his 5th pole position of the season in Bahrain, at a press conference. He confirmed it this Monday on his Twitter account. The Briton Callum Ilott, currently second in Formula 2 for his second season in the category, will not go Formula 1 next season.

“It is time for me to announce that I will not be racing in Formula 1 in 2021, he actually announced. “Obviously, I’ve known this for several weeks now. I'm disappointed, but I'm going to work even harder to try to get a seat in 2022.". He then concluded his remarks by saying that he “a Formula 2 championship to win”.

Arriving 22 points behind for the first of the last two rounds of the season in Bahrain, Callum Ilott took eight points from the championship leader Mick Schumacher, who should join him Haas in the premier category next season. One week before the end of the championship, Ilott is only fourteen points behind the German in the championship.

Pilot of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Callum Ilott was once mentioned at Alfa Romeo Racing then at Haas. But the team led by Frédéric Vasseur quickly extended Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi, while Mick Schumacher, precisely, and Nikita mazepin, are more than expected to replace Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen at Haas.

Callum Ilott, however, did not reveal what his program would be for next season, after having announced last Friday “that he already knew what he would do next season”. If he managed to win the F2 title, it would be the second time that the Formula 2 champion would not be given a F1 wheel the following season, after Nyck De Vries last season.
