Colton Herta makes history with pole at Road America

Colton Herta (Harding Steinbrenner Racing – Honda) entered the history of IndyCar Series this Saturday evening by becoming the youngest pole-sitter in the championship after dominating qualifying at Road America (Wisconsin).

The 19-year-old American was the fastest in Fast 6 by achieving a best time in 1'42″992, the only driver under 1'43" per lap in the decisive session. Herta precedes his compatriot Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport – Honda) of 177 thousandths.

Will Power and Josef Newgarden (Team Penske – Chevrolet) will start from the second row of the grid, ahead of the two Team RLL – Honda drivers Graham Rahal and Takuma Sato.

Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser Sullivan – Honda) had failed to reach the top 6 and will start in seventh position. Less success for simon pagenaud (Team Penske), only eighth in its qualifying group and eliminated from the start.

The winner of the Indianapolis 500 will start the road event from just 16th position. Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing – Honda) had reached the second lap, but was visibly the victim of a mechanical problem, and was unable to set a time in Q2.
