Correa comes out of coma

Juan Manuel Correa was brought out of the artificial coma in which he was placed following the accident at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) in F2 which cost the life of Anthoine Hubert on August 31. The 20-year-old Sauber Junior Team by Charouz resident was on respiratory assistance via a respirator and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

“Juan Manuel Correa has been brought out of an induced coma and is no longer on life support, his family said this Friday evening. He is conscious but not fully awake. The doctors told us that it takes a few days to come out of an induced coma. Juan Manuel remains fragile and vulnerable while still in intensive care. His condition was upgraded from critical to serious. »

Doctors are now concerned that injuries to his right leg may prove irreversible.

“Medical priority will shift from the lungs to leg injuries that have not been treated since the initial intervention. Doctors are racing against time to perform a major operation to reduce the risk of irreversible injury to his right extremity because they could not carry out this type of operation until his lungs were able to support it. »

Juan Manuel Correa is currently hospitalized in a facility in London.
