Correa operated on, doctors confident about the success of the surgery

After several days in a coma following his dramatic accident in Spa, which unfortunately cost the life of Anthoine Hubert, Juan Manuel Corre was able to be awakened by the doctors, his lungs having recovered sufficiently to consider a scheduled operation to take care of the legs of the American-Ecuadorian.

A long surgery lasting 17 hours, but at the end of which the doctors were quite confident about the success of the procedure.

“Sunday September 29, Juan Manuel Correa was admitted to surgery for a planned operation to reconstruct the lower part of his right leg. After 17 hours of surgery, the 20-year-old pilot woke up to the good news that the procedure went well, says the press release.

The days following the operation were stressful. The next 48 to 72 hours were decisive for the outcome of the reconstructive surgery. This Thursday, and more than 72 hours later, doctors are confident in the success of the operation, while maintaining careful monitoring.

During the procedure, doctors were forced to remove more bone tissue than expected and address several vein problems, but the major goal of the surgery was achieved.

Juan Manuel remains hospitalized in London, and is due to undergo a second, but less extensive, surgery in the next two weeks. Doctors expect Juan Manuel to leave the hospital in six weeks.

He will then begin his convalescence and rehabilitation. The coming year will be one of physical care and corrective surgeries with the goal of regaining full use of his right ankle and foot. »

Juan Manuel Correa also spoke following this operation for the first time since the terrible Belgian weekend. “These last few weeks have been extremely hard, harder than anything I have faced physically and mentally, specifies the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz driver.

I understand that my future, particularly with regard to the recovery of my legs, particularly the right, is uncertain, and that the rehabilitation process will be long and complicated.

I want to thank everyone who has supported me in one way or another. I am honored by the incredible number of messages received. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and know that your encouragement and positive vibes made the difference. »

All of us at AUTOhebdo, Juan Manuel, we also renew all our support for you.
