Correa wants to return to competition in 2021

He was deeply marked by the accident which cost the life of Anthoine Hubert on August 30, 2019, both physically and in his heart. Juan Manuel Correa, seriously injured legs and lungs in the Raidillon pileup, is present in the paddock of Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), a year after the tragedy.

The 21-year-old American accepted the invitation from the Formula 2 to travel from his home in Miami (Florida) to Europe, in order to heal his wounds. “It’s been a year since the crash happened. I felt that (returning to Spa) was a way for me to close this chapter, but above all to pay tribute to Anthoine.

JI never had the opportunity to do it properly since Miami. This is something I was really looking forward to.

I'm happy to be here, to see all the familiar faces in the paddock again. But it will also be an emotional weekend,” continues the former pilot Charouz.

John Manuel Correa has been continuing his rehabilitation for almost a year and in fact never let go of the idea of returning to the starting grid. “I regain my strength very quickly, I make a lot of effort thanks to my pilot’s mentality,” he explains.

I always do more than is necessary, but it works well. I'm aiming for a return (in competition) next year, which would be sooner than initially hoped, but it seems to be off to a good start.

I still have some surgeries to go through, but theclump of metal around my leg should be removed by the end of 2020, which would mean I would be able to get into a car next December. »
