Race 1: Shwartzman wins, Zhou at fault

Robert Shwartzman remembered fond memories of his ex-teammate Mick Schumacher. Starting 4th on the grid, the Russian made a supersonic start, like the German did last year in this championship, to take the lead from the first corner and never let go. He won ahead of Jüri Vips (Hitech), who had two victories in Azerbaijan, and ahead of pole sitter Christian Lundgaard (ART Grand Prix).

The Russian has long believed he was doing a double take and took the lead in the championship thanks to the two points for the fastest lap in the race. But Oscar piastri (Prema), like a trickster, took it away from him at the very end of the race, after having cooled his tires.

Piastri serious

Oscar Piastri is therefore the new leader of the Formula 2 after this race 1. Author on Friday of his first pole position in Formula 2, Oscar Piastri pocketed 6th place, the four valuable points that go with it, in addition to the two points for the best lap. He also benefits, it must be said, from the setbacks of his traveling companion on the side ofAlpine Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi).

Although credited with a very good start from 9th position, the Chinese made a mistake alone, guilty of a spin on the first lap after having put too much angle behind the wheel in the 4th turn. The penalty is double for the pilot Alpine, since this means that he will also start last in Race 2.

Pourchaire assures

For his part, Théo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) secured 5th place. The Habs had a solid race despite an arm that was still sore following his injury sustained in Baku several weeks ago. The Frenchman scores six points and will start 5th in race 2, scheduled for 15:45 p.m.

A race in which Richard Verschoor (MP Motorsport) will start from pole. The Dutchman, who started in the Top 10, lost several positions at the start but was able to count on a fine strategy to once again seize 10th place, synonymous with pole on a reverse grid.

The winner of the Macau Grand Prix in 2019 indeed returned via the pit lane on the 13th lap of the race to put on Medium tires, taking advantage of a third safety car. Four overtakes later, he finished 10th and therefore secured pole in race 2.
