Dixon and Franchitti neck and neck

Reigning champion of theIndycar Series, Scott Dixon is looking for a third title. He would thus equal Sam Hornish Jr, winner of the Indycar Series in 2001, 2002 and 2006. In any case, this weekend's race on the Richmond oval has already offered the New Zealander a record: that of the number of victories in Indy. With a 19th victory under his belt, Dixon now equals the Briton. However, Franchitti was not unworthy in Richmond.

After Jaques Lazier's accident, it was the Scotsman who took the lead at the restart, ahead of Dixon. The two men from Ganassi Racing will be the two main leaders of the race. But another Indycar tenor, Ryan Briscoe, then manifested himself in another way. The championship leader was trapped on the oval after 26 laps, his car making a mistake during acceleration. While the Ganassi drivers stopped at the yellow flag, Hideki Mutoh took the lead at the restart.

Franchitti comes back to the lead and takes advantage of Mutoh's refueling to take the lead. But he himself will lose leadership while refueling, leaving control of the race to his teammate, Dixon. Behind, it was a disaster for the Penske team which, after losing Briscoe, saw Castroneve hit the wall. At the restart, Dixon retained the lead ahead of Franchitti, on the lookout for the slightest mistake from his teammate, who did not make any. The Ganassi team can celebrate this double because, if Dixon inherits the victory, Franchitti climbs to the top of the championship ahead? Dixon, with a small point lead.
