Charles Leclerc had collected a sixth victory this season at Spa-Francorchamps with more than 25 seconds ahead of his pursuers, Artem Markelov and Oliver Rowland. However, the Prema driver and the DAMS driver were disqualified from the first race of the weekend following a technical non-compliance of the flat bottom.
« Both cars were inspected during post-race technical checks, indicates the press release F2, when damage was noted on both vehicles. The boards were removed and measured, their thickness being below the permitted limit."
In a press release, the Prema team indicates that the damage to the car of the Monegasque are accidental and were accentuated by the characteristics of the Belgian route. The team still refuses to appeal and takes full responsibility for this disqualification.
Artem Markelov is therefore promoted to winner of the race, despite his five-second penalty for overtaking Oliver Rowland outside the limits of the track. Luca Ghiotto is promoted to second and Antonio Fuoco to third as the reverse pole goes to Norman Born. In the championship, Leclerc still has a 54-point lead over Rowland.
