FE – BMW commits to 2018

BMW will engage as a manufacturer of the championship Formula E from season 5, that is to say 2018/2019 at the time of technical changes. This commitment will be in the form of a contract with the Andretti team to provide them with their power unit.

« Formula E has developed tremendously as a racing category and as a new technology-based project that is a perfect fit for the BMW Group and BMW Motorsport., explains Jens Marquardt, director of BMW Motorsport. BMW already has links with Andretti through Antonio Felix da Costa, driver of the Bavarian firm and former flag bearer in DTM. The German brand is also an important supporter of the American team from a technical point of view.

This formalization takes place a few days later Audi's announcement officially taking over the Abt Sportsline team, announcing an upcoming duel between the two German brands. BMW which had also been listed by the FIA ​​as manufacturer approved between 2018 and 2021.
