Formula E – Vergne takes care of his entry with pole

Jean-Éric Vergne (Andretti) can smile. The former pilot of Toro Rosso took pole at the Punta del Este ePrix (Uruguay) for his first event in the discipline. The Frenchman quickly set the benchmark with a time of 1'15"408 at the cost of a big attack, the only consequence of which was a slight contact with the wall. Nelson Piquet Jr (China Racing) was the closest with a tenth behind, while theNicolas Edams drivers Cheers et Sébastien Buemi are in ambush on the second line.

Jaime Alguersuari (Virgin Racing) completes the top five on the grid more than half a second behind, ahead of Championship leader Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport Abt) and Jarno Trulli (Trulli). Bruno Senna (Mahindra Racing) follows in eighth place ahead of Nick Heidfeld (Venturi) and Daniel Abt (Audi Sport Abt).

Some pilots have already encountered difficulties. Stéphane Sarrazin (Venturi) was only able to take 14th position after spinning. Sam Bird (Virgin Racing), last winner in Putrjaya (Malaysia), did not even manage to set a time after finishing in the wall. Jérôme d'Ambrosio (Dragon Racing) will also start from the back of the grid.

The Punta del Este ePrix will be followed live from 18:50 p.m. on Sport+.
