Main race: victory for Piastri, miraculous podium for Ticktum

The best thing to do, when you have won two championships in a row, is to lead the Formula 2, and that the doors of the Formula 1 seem to have remained closed, it is to strike hard to remind the eyes of the world to what extent this is injustice. This is exactly what we set out to do Oscar piastri at Monza, while his name for the last seat available in F1 at Alfa Romeo is not at the top of the list. By taking pole position for the meeting on Friday, but above all by dominating the main race this Sunday. The Australian won ahead of his main opponent in the championship, the Chinese Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi), and the Briton Daniel Ticktum (Carlin).

Ideally starting from the top position, the reigning champion of the Formula 3 did not fail and managed to keep the Chinese behind him throughout the race. He was able to maintain his advantage in the pits at the time of the pit stop. Then it got hot at turn 4, a few laps later, after a complicated safety car restart. But he worked to keep the inside line and his position. Finally, the Aussie can also certainly thank the safety car for intervening on the track three laps from the goal, while Daniel Ticktum, in Mediums-Softs strategy, came roaring back.

The rise of Ticktum

In his radio, the Briton showed enormous regret at not being able to fight to the end for victory, but his presence on the podium is already a miracle. Starting 8th and in Mediums unlike his opponents in the top 10, the Briton was first involved in an incident with Jüri Vips (Hitech) by slightly pushing the Estonian at turn 5. Fortunately for him, he emerged unscathed, and took advantage of a Safety Car to make his obligatory pit stop. A perfect tactical choice which allowed him to come out 11th, with new soft balls, when the others were in Mediums with more than ten rounds of wear. One by one, he swallowed his adversaries, until Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) who had a superb race in 3rd position.

Under investigation for not having respected the instructions of the race management, he ultimately escaped any penalty. But as he pounced on Guanyu Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi) three laps from the end, an incident at the back of the peloton finally put an end to his offensive attempts, the Safety Car intervening to signal the end of the recess. Théo Pourchaire gained three places and finished 4th after taking the lead five laps from the goal over Jehan Daruvala (Carlin). In the championship, Oscar Piastri is now fifteen points ahead of Zhou.
