Guanyu Zhou wins Race 2 in Abu Dhabi

The weekends go by and are not the same for DAMS and for Marcus Armstrong. Winner in Jeddah for the first time in 489 days, the French team believed it only needed seven additional days to achieve its next success, but fate would have it otherwise. Starting from pole, Marcus Armstrong managed his takeoff perfectly and the two safety car restarts he had to deal with, but mid-race, his car suddenly stopped working. He then had to give up.

Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi), who had taken the best in the 3rd lap over Ralph Boschung (Campos), therefore inherited the controls of the track, almost confused. “I feel sorry for Marcus”, he blurted into his radio, snatching the lead in the race. The one who will pilot F1 in Alfa Romeo in 2022 ahead of Robert Shwartzman (Prema), to whom he covets second place in the championship, and Ralph Boschung (Campos), already on the podium in Jeddah a week ago.

Piastres abandoned

Crowned this Saturday morning at the end of race 1, Oscar Piastri (Prema) was forced to retire for the second time this season. Arriving three abreast in turn 9 with Roy Nissany (DAMS) and Jüri Vips (Hitech) halfway through the race, the Australian was surprised on the inside by an Israeli not really in control, who came to support on the Australian in a rather manly way. Piastri and Vips touched each other and gave up.

An investigation has been opened and the decision regarding a possible penalty will be made after the race. Oscar Piastri had anyway inherited a five-second penalty for forcing Liam Lawson to go beyond the limits of the track. For his part, Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) had a difficult race after missing his start. The Frenchman took off but visibly skated for long meters. He therefore found himself beyond 10th place at the first corner, and finally finished 9th. His compatriot Clément Novalak (MP Motorsport) took 14th place in the race.
