Felipe Drugovich (MP Motorsport) definitely likes the Barcelona track. Two years after his victory in the Sprint Race, the Brazilian scored a double this weekend by winning the Main Race less than 24 hours after his success in the Sprint.

However, the task did not seem simple for the MP Motorsport driver who started from 10e position. Immediately moved up to 7e place at the end of the first lap, Felipe Drugovich then decided to postpone his pit stop as long as possible to try to grab a few additional positions. While his rivals stopped around the 10e turn, the South American waited until the 17the by perfectly managing the degradation of its soft tires.

Shod with its hard tires for the 2e part of the race, Felipe Drugovich provisionally came out 3rde behind Frederik Vesti (ART Grand Prix) and pole sitter Jack Doohan). Well helped by fresher tires than his rivals in front of him, the Brazilian would catch up in a few laps to overtake Vesti (T20) and Doohan (T27) without much difficulty.

Alone in the lead and at an impressive pace, Felipe Drugovich then only had to manage his end of the race to get his 2e weekend victory in Barcelona, a first since Antonio Giovinazzi in Baku with Prema in 2016! A mission carried out to perfection since he won with almost 6 seconds ahead of Jack Doohan who won his first podium in F2 in front of Frederik Vesti.

Pourchaire loses big, Novalak comes back

Among the French, this Main Race was very different for Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) and Clément Novalak (MP Motorsport). With the objective of coming back to try to grab a podium and regain the lead in the championship, the first city experienced a difficult Sunday.

In difficulty during his second stint with the hard tires, Théo Pourchaire was never able to catch up with the drivers in front of him. The Habs even had to battle with those behind him to try to stay in the Top 5. A Top 5 that he was going to leave in the last laps when Clément Novalak, Enzo Fittipaldi (Charouz) and Marcus Armstrong (Hitech GP) suddenly overtook him. instantly. On arrival, it’s at number 8e place he took the checkerboard. A bad operation in the championship against double winner Felipe Drugovich, now alone in the lead.

Clément Novalak took advantage of his offbeat strategy. Starting on hard tires, the MP Motorsport driver was able to make full use of his soft tires at the end of the race by making a series of overtakes to get his first Top 5 of the season (5e on the finish line) after starting on the 12the row on the grid.
