Lively session on the Monaco side where the F2 competed in the qualifications of this 5e round of the season. Divided into 2 groups to avoid any problems with traffic among other things, the drivers were busy on the Rock where Liam Lawson (Carlin) stood out as the fastest among them.

If it was on the side of Group 2 where we expected the best times, it was ultimately in Group 1 that the drivers stood out the most with the fastest laps in these qualifications with a very close battle . Championship leader, Felipe Drugovich (MP Motorsport) long believed he held pole position with his time of 1'21"348 but the improvement in conditions allowed Ayumu Iwasa (DAMS) but especially Liam Lawson to dislodge him from the first place. The latter managed to beat him with a lap in 1'21"229. The Japanese and the New Zealander must, however, wait for the decision of the commissioners to know if they have slowed down sufficiently in the 3e sector when the yellow flags were waved after contact with Drugovich's wall.

Pourchaire close to double

Author of an authoritarian pole position last year, Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) has long claimed 1st place on the Monaco grid. Starting in Group 2, the Grassois waited until the last minutes to improve his previous mark. At ease in the streets of the Principality where he had won in 2021, the runner-up to Felipe Drugovich in the championship dominated his group to secure 2nd place on the grid for the Main Race. With a lap of 1'21"535, the Frenchman beat Jüri Vips (Hitech GP) and Enzo Fittipaldi (Charouz).

As winner of his group, Théo Pourchaire will take the drivers of his group (the evens) behind him while Liam Lawson will do the same on the right side of the track with the odd ones.
