The F2 weekend at Silverstone at a glance

The man of the weekend: Oscar piastri (Prema)

A first personal pole position since September 2019, a podium, two best laps in the race, 39 points collected throughout the weekend and above all a championship leader position stolen from Guanyu-Zhou, the weekend was very good for the Australian. While the mid-season milestone has just been reached, the pilot Alpine continues to gain momentum.

The disappointment of the weekend: Liam Lawson (Hitech Grand Prix)

Author of a superb start to the season with already a victory under his belt, the New Zealand rookie has somewhat got through his English weekend. 7th in Race 1 and 5th in Race 2, he did not score in the main race after starting far in qualifying (11th). The protégé of Red Bull especially seemed slow in the race, so much so that he was overtaken twice by Oscar Piastri during the weekend, on a track where overtaking is not numerous.

Video of the weekend: Piastri's defense on Verschoor in the main race.

If Oscar Piastri is five points ahead of Zhou at the head of the championship and not just two, it is because he was able, despite recalcitrant rear tires, to maintain the enthusiasm of Richard Verschoor in the penultimate lap and thus saving his place on the podium.

Fact of the weekend: Guanyu Zhou's mistake (UNI-Virtuosi)

The weekend was not missed for the Chinese. Far from it, as evidenced by his victory in the main race. But if the pilot Alpine is no longer leading the championship, it is because of his error in the first lap of Race 1. At the exit of turn 4, the UNI-Virtuosi driver put too much steering angle on his cold tires and spun off alone. He therefore did not score a single point on Saturday.

Richard Verschoor won his first victory in Formula 2 at the end of Race 2 on Saturday. The Dutchman, who is experiencing financing problems for his season, is only entering meeting by meeting with MP Motorsport, while waiting to be able to find other sponsors. This success acquired thanks to the inverted grid should allow him to gain a lot of credit.

The weekend of Theo Pourchaire :

Qualification: P5
Race 1: P5
Race 2: P10
Main race: P8

Still injured in his left arm after his radius fracture contracted in Baku, the Frenchman got off to a difficult start to the weekend, losing control of his car in his first flying lap. But this only gave more emphasis to his 5th place in qualifying and in Race 1. But two bad starts in C2 and C3 caused him to lose many places and therefore many points. He leaves England with ten additional points.

The statement of the weekend: Robert Shwartzman after Race 1:

“The radio started to crackle, so I took it out. Which means I did almost the entire race without a radio. It was like the old days, I felt like it was the 70s, when they didn't have radios, it was just them and the car. It was pretty cool to experience.”
