Despite his 49 points behind Drugovich, Théo Pourchaire is not worried

Currently 2nd in Formula 2, Théo Pourchaire is currently 49 points behind leader Felipe Drugovich. But while Silverstone will officially mark the mid-season milestone, the Frenchman remains confident and intends not to pollute himself with the battle for the title.

The ambitions have not changed, but the discourse has evolved somewhat to Theo Pourchaire. At the start of the season, the French nugget kept repeating that he was aiming for the championship title, without ever hiding. Today, while he has 49 point behind Felipe Drugovich, the target is still the same, but the speech is more cautious. “At the start of the season in particular, I put a lot of pressure on myself, probably too much and for not much, and I realized that I could do better in terms of approach, he told us. I will take race after race, without thinking about the championship. I'll just ride fast and give my best. I know what I am capable of. »

For the first time since the start of his career in car, Théo Pourchaire is not a rookie in a championship and is one of the legitimate favorites for the title. So obviously, the pressure to manage is greater and greater. His objective is therefore to relieve himself of the pressure inherent in this new status in order to feel lighter in the car and to give himself as much chance as possible to shine in the race. At Silverstone this weekend, the symbolic mid-season milestone will have been passed. Should he therefore start to worry about the significant gap which separates him from the championship leader? " Not really, he retorted to us. There's not much that worries me at the moment. There are eight rounds remaining in the championship. I'm pretty relaxed about it all. I know it's going to be okay, that I'm going to do the best job possible. And we will see if the hazards will go my way or not”.

The next circuits on the calendar smiled on him

Winner of the main races in Bahrain and Imola, and very successful in Monaco (2nd), the native of Grasse experienced two more difficult rounds in Spain and Baku, proof that there is obviously still a little work to do. “I still have room for improvement on all fronts, analyzes Théo Pourchaire. If we talk about departures for example, they weren't great in the first three meetings. But I improved on that side, the team did too, and we had 7 or 8 very good ones in a row. Afterwards, that doesn't necessarily mean that we will only make good starts in the future. We still have to improve on all levels, enjoy riding and then... we're 2nd in the championship anyway, that's good! ".

The good news for Théo is that the program for the coming weeks has everything to suit him, with a return to the more traditional European circuits. “It’s an excellent thing because these are circuits that I love, he explained to us. Silverstone (July 1-3), it’s one of my favorite circuits. THE Red Bull Ring (July 8-10) same, that's where I had my first victory in German F4 and in F3. Le Castellet (July 22-24), it's the French GP, so it's going to be great! And then to Hungary (July 29-31), I won in Formula 3. That doesn't mean I'll be on all these circuits quickly, but I can't wait to race there. There is nothing better than these tracks to have fun with an F2. »
