He is the revelation of the year on the F2 side and no one can really contradict him. Crowned champion of F3 in 2020 after winning the Formula Renault in 2019, Oscar piastri won the title in Formula 2 this Saturday near Abu Dhabi.

Endowed with incredible intelligence and excellent steering skills, the Prema driver left no chance to his competitors, including those promised to the title. F1 as Guanyu-Zhou. Ultra-dominant, the young Australian crushed the championship with five victories and as many pole positions to win the title with two races remaining, thus achieving an unprecedented hat-trick.

« It’s definitely a very good year, he whispered after his coronation in Abu Dhabi. I didn't know if I could do it at the start of the season because F2 is difficult as a rookie. I think I felt more confident after the first meetings and I am very happy to be champion today.

I am very proud of what I accomplished. I believe I am the first to achieve the feat of winning three titles consecutively. I didn't really come to F2 to achieve the hat-trick. I just wanted to win Formula 2 for the pleasure of winning Formula 2. It looks great on my CV. »

Rightly champion, Oscar Piastri looked back on his 2021 season and in particular its highlights. Among these, the member of theAlpine Academy selected the qualifications but also some triumphs. “ There were a lot of highlights to be honest, he says first before providing more details. The qualifications as a whole were incredible. I couldn't have predicted it would go this well. There was this first pole at Silverstone too because it had been a long time since I had one, and the lap was really good. There is also Race 2 in Jeddah (victory) but I think my best moments are Race 2 in Bahrain, my first victory, as well as my first Main Race success at Monza. I think those are my two most memorable moments. »

Assured of the title even before the last race of the season this Sunday, Oscar Piastri is now looking towards 2022. Unable to move up to F1, the Australian will wait as a reserve driver Alpine hoping to finally land a seat among the big boys in 2023.
