Piastri wins a shortened main race marked by a big crash

This is a race that we wish would never begin. Before talking about sporting results, let's talk about health. Caught in a big crash at the start of the main race of the Jeddah meeting this Sunday, Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) and Enzo Fittipaldi (Charouz) were immediately treated by the circuit's medical teams. When they were taken out of their respective cars, both drivers were “conscious and were transferred by ambulance and helicopter to the nearest hospital”, made the FIA official in a press release.

Starting from third position, Théo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) remained glued to the grid. Most of the cars starting behind him managed to avoid him, but unfortunately not Enzo Fittipaldi (Charouz). Arriving at full speed, the Brazilian hit the Habs car from behind. The red flag was then immediately waved and the race was interrupted for several ten minutes, while the official teams took care of the two injured drivers. The race ended up restarting for twenty minutes + 1 lap, with a mandatory pit stop.

Prema, Teams champion

But a collision between Olli Caldwell (Campos) and Marino Sato (Trident) pushed the commissioners to simply stop the race, seven minutes from the end. The two men came out walking and without the slightest problem with their car. The classification of the race remained unclear for a long time, since the interruption of the proceedings took place even though half of the competitors were in the pitlane for the obligatory tire change.

Victory ultimately went to the pole sitter and championship leader Oscar piastri (Prema), who definitely already has one hand on the champion trophy, ahead of his runner-up Robert Shwartzman (Prema) and Ralph Boschung (Campos), who won his first podium of the year. As the race only lasted a few laps, only half of the points were awarded. But it’s enough for Prema to be officially assured of the Team Championship title.
