We could expect some acclimatization time but Victor Martins does not seem to need it. Although he did not make too much progress after the winter tests, the ART Grand Prix driver quickly put everyone in agreement by signing the 2e qualifying time this Friday. Not enough to ignite the Habs, always keen to be able to do better, who conceded more than 7 tenths on his teammate and pole-sitter Theo Pourchaire.

« There is still a lot of work to do, he estimated. I know there is still progress to be made because I made a few mistakes that cost me a lot of time in the end. I still think that if someone had told me that I would be 2e for my first qualifications I would have signed straight away."

Conquering beginnings

While waiting for the Main Race, the last champion of F3 had the opportunity to get an idea of what a race was like F2 with the Sprint this Saturday. An opportunity taken to the fullest by Victor Martins who did not hesitate to stick together. Party 8e and reassembled 4e at the end of the first lap, the Ile-de-France resident then fought for 2 for a long timee place before reaching the finish at 3e position. A very encouraging result for the Frenchman who can even dream of a victory this Sunday.

« I am very proud of my race but also of the team which gave me a very good car, he savored. I pushed a lot. I felt like I had the grip to do it so I went for it and got some opportunities. I just wanted to look ahead (...)

It was very nice, really clean. There was a lot of respect (on the track) between everyone which is not bad for the first race of the season. There's always a lot of animosity at the start of the year so it's always nice to have clean races like this where you can fight and have fun."

His first podium in F2 in his pocket, Victor Martins has already made his debut. While a new opportunity for Top 3 and even victory awaits him this Sunday, the protégé ofAlpine could still hit hard despite his rookie status which often weighs on the shoulders of beginners.

Meet at 11:20 a.m. French time for the start of the main race where Martins will start from 2nd position, behind his ART Grand Prix teammate Théo Pourchaire.
