Has the weekend of glory arrived for Theo Pourchaire ? The Frenchman can finally be titled in Formula 2 for his third season in the category. Fifth in 2021, vice-champion in 2022, the Grassois is very close to the coronation in the antechamber of the Formula 1. Arriving in Abu Dhabi, the final round of the season, the Sauber Academy protégé has a 25-point lead over his closest pursuer, Frederik Vesti, and 39 over Ayumu Iwasa, third. The three men are the last title contenders in Formula 2.

Thanks to his lead, Théo Pourchaire could even be crowned even before the Main Race on Sunday. The Habs will nevertheless have to deliver and hope for a poor performance from their rivals to secure the title at the end of the Sprint Race on Saturday (start at 13:20 p.m. French time). In total, 39 points are still to be distributed during the last race weekend in Formula 2. The first points will be distributed on Friday: the author of pole position will earn two additional points to his credit.

For Ayumu Iwasa, who is 39 points behind Théo Pourchaire, failure to obtain pole position would definitely put him out of the championship race. The Japanese must have the perfect weekend and hope for a zero point from Théo Pourchaire to be crowned… and without forgetting Frederik Vesti in the equation!

The Dane is also forced to perform at all costs in Abu Dhabi. For him to still be in contention for the title on Saturday evening, the Scandinavian must remain a maximum of 26 points behind Théo Pourchaire. The Prema driver could give himself a better chance in the event of pole position: this would bring him closer to 23 points behind the French leader in the standings before the Sprint Race.

In the event of pole position, Frederik Vesti must absolutely avoid conceding four or more points to the Frenchman during the Sprint Race in order to push the deadline to Sunday. Without pole position, the protégé from Mercedes must not lose two or more points against their rival. Finally, if Théo Pourchaire takes pole, Frederik Vesti will absolutely have to finish in front of him to maintain a tiny chance of the title. But the Dane has an advantage over the Frenchman: with five victories (compared to just one for Pourchaire), Vesti would be titled in the event of a tie between the two drivers...
