With just over a week to go before the winter tests in Sakhir, the grid of the Formula 2 is officially complete after Trident announced the arrival of Dutch rider Richard Verschoor. He will join rookie Calan Williams within the Italian team for 2022, ninth in the last constructors' championship.
Competing in seven of the eight rounds in 2021, Verschoor finished 11th in the standings, taking his first victory with MP Motorsport at Silverstone (Great Britain). The 21-year-old young man, who manages his sponsors alone, was unable to take part in the Jeddah round due to not having found enough funds. He was finally selected by Charouz Racing for the last round in Abu Dhabi, as a replacement.
“I am extremely proud and motivated to join a highly professional team like Trident Motorsport for the F2 championship, said the Dutchman. I think we have all the necessary conditions to achieve important goals and have a positive season. ».
Trident team principal Giacomo Ricci added: “We are proud to welcome a driver of undisputed value like Verschoor to our team. We are excited by the prospect of working with such a talented and experienced rider, who has already proven his ability to achieve exceptional goals.
I believe that Verschoor and Williams will be an extremely strong and promising combination, and that they will continue to push each other to the next level, creating the conditions for a successful season. We can't wait to get back on track for the 2022 season with our new team. »
And the final seat on the #F2 grid goes to…
