Founded in 1975 and present in the championships of Formula 3 for many years, Van Amersfoort Racing has taken a big step by committing to Formula 2 from 2022. The Dutch team, successful in promotion formulas on several occasions, including recently in F4 Italy with Dennis Hauger in 2019 and Ollie Bearman this season, will be managed by Peter van Erp. It will replace the HWA Racelab team next season. This will be the first time that VAR will participate full-time in the F2 and F3 championship. The first appearance of this new team in Formula 2 is planned during the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi which begin on December 16. Recently, many prestigious drivers have driven for this team such as Mick Schumacher, Charles Leclerc, Callum Ilott and Max Verstappen

“We are absolutely delighted with the extension to the FIA F2 Championship, says Rob Niessink, CEO of Van Amersfoort Racing. The high level of professionalism demonstrated in this category suits us extremely well. It adapts to the way we operate throughout the series we're racing in, so from that point of view it's a perfect match. This is an exciting development and it will be a great moment for us to see our F2 cars leave the pit lane for the first time during the upcoming qualifying tests in Abu Dhabi! »

“It always amazes me how big we have become since I started this racing team over 45 years ago, comments Frits van Amersfoort, founder of VAR with Rob Niessink. We were very happy to announce our re-entry into FIA F3 just recently and we are obviously too excited to now add FIA F2 to our portfolio as well. From F4 we cover the complete route to F1, which fits perfectly with our philosophy of supporting talented young drivers on their path to higher levels in motorsport. We are very aware of the level of competition we will face and we will not take on this challenge lightly! »
