Formula E – Major developments to come

The World Championship Formula E has barely started (the first round having taken place on September 13 in Beijing, China), when the first thoughts are already emerging regarding the evolution of the championship for the second season. Questioned by fans on the series website, championship director Alejandro Agag detailed certain new features that will appear in the future.

“From the second season, the teams will be able to build their own batteries and their own engines. They could also build their own car if they wanted. But the rules are very strict and don't allow much development in aerodynamics, but they allow development in the motor and the battery. I hope we will have three or four different motor and battery manufacturers in the championship for the second year. »
explains Agag. Currently, batteries are developed by Williams Advanced Engineering, and the engine is supplied by McLaren Electronics System.

As for the entrants and the races, the championship boss hopes to attract newcomers. “Yes, there are plans to go to new cities. Next year we'll probably be at 12 races, and we want to slowly grow to around 18 races per year. After Beijing, we received requests from over 40 or 50 cities around the world to host a race. This is very positive. The number of entries is 20 because we are racing with two cars per driver, so 40 cars worldwide is already a lot. But I think when we have one car per race, when the batteries can last longer, I think we can add two more teams. »

The next Formula E race will take place in Putrajaya, Malaysia on November 21 and 22.
