Formula E – Ho-Pin Tung headlines in Beijing

After starting his career in car in Formula BMW Asia, and having taken part in a test driving a Williams BMW and F1, Ho-Pin Tung had branched off some time ago towardsEndurance. After two participations in 24 Hours of Le Mans (including a 7th place this year in LM P2 for Oak Racing Team Asia), it is in the Asian Le Mans Series, still with Oak Racing, that the Chinese driver set down his bags.

But the second weekend of September will see the native of Velp in the Netherlands climb into the seat of one of the Spark-Renault SRT_01E 100% electric for the first race of the new World Championship Formula E on his lands in Beijing, China. He will clearly be one of the headliners for the public in the Chinese capital. “It’s one of those countries where this sport continues to grow, Tung explains. General interest in cars continues to increase. I think the Chinese federation plays a very important role in promoting the sport in China and they have been very active with the beginners. We have a pilot of karting very talented called Guanyu-Zhou, who has just signed for the Ferrari Driver Academy. There is a very important local touring car championship, the CTCC. Ma Qing Hua is a former champion and recently won a WTCC race (with Citroën, Editor’s note), so I think it shows how motorsport is developing here. I think the Formula E race in Beijing around one of China's most iconic locations – the Olympic Stadium – will help boost Chinese interest. »

Tung will be lined up for the Chinese team China Racing, alongside Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet Jr.
