Ho Pin-Tung, first Chinese pilot to have tried a F1, is mounted in the seat of the Spark-Renault SRT_01E during a test session in Spain, on the Monteblanco track, last week. The current resident of the Asian Le Mans Series, and the Asian Carrera Cup, said he was impressed by the potential of the car electric.
" There Formula E could be the future of motorsport. I was surprised because I didn't know what to expect. Everything is different from the other single-seaters you are used to. It's going to be close racing, because we can brake very late, explains the Chinese. Having seen the layout of the Beijing track, it looks like there are going to be a lot of overtaking opportunities and with the Fan Boost system you will have to be very strategic in its use. Obviously, you can save on a few rounds and then use the extra energy on the other rounds. The energy saving strategy is going to be very important during the race and I think you will see a lot of drivers looking for and trying to create opportunities to overtake. »
The first round of the new championship will take place around the Beijing Olympic Stadium on September 13. The first single-seaters will be delivered to Donington, to the Formula E premises, on May 15 before being shipped to the ten teams registered for the coming season.
