Formula E – Jann Mardenborough tested the Spark-Renault SRT_01E

Jann Mardenborough continues to diversify into motorsport. Arriving in the world of motorsport through the GT Academy won in 2011, the Briton now competes in the GP3 Series at Arden International where he won his first success this season on the Hockenheim circuit in Germany, on the occasion of the Sunday race. After discovering the 24 Hours of Le Mans for two seasons in LM P2, he took part in a test session in Formula E, the new 100% electric single-seater world championship, which will begin on September 13 in Beijing, China. He took a seat in a Spark-Renault SRT_01E from the Virgin team on the English track of Donington.

“The first word that comes to mind is: interesting. But at the same time, you have to think about several parameters, about what you are doing and what is happening. You always have to think about energy recovery, so there are a lot of things to think about. Then at the same time, you have to consider the amount of energy you are using. I did five laps then I had half the load I had starting from the pits and I wasn't at full throttle all the time. There's a lot to take in as a driver. You still have your engineer talking to you on the radio, but there is no live telemetry, so your engineer can't tell you how to ride at every moment. You have to be very smart in how you approach things. I think in racing it will be very interesting to see people who think long term versus people who want to go hard all the time and might not finish the race. » explains Mardenborough.

If the Virgin team knows its two starting drivers for 2014-2015 in the person of the Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari and the Briton Sam Bird, the starting grid for Formula E is almost complete, apart from the last free seat at Andretti Autosport.
