Formula E – The Beijing circuit revealed

The Chinese capital's Bird's Nest will be the backdrop for the first race in the history of Formula E, the FIA electric single-seater world championship, on September 13. The Beijing Olympic Stadium, which hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 2008, will be at the center of the route unveiled this morning. 3,44 km long, it will be covered 20 times by the Spark-Renault SRT_01E of the 10 teams entered in 2014. The route has yet to be approved by the FIA.

It was Rodrigo Nunes who designed this circuit in collaboration with the authorities of the city of Beijing, as well as the organizer Team China Racing. For Lucas di Grassi, development driver of the car Spark-Renault and also engaged in Endurance with Audi, this track is a superb working tool. “For the drivers, however, it will be a huge challenge to learn the limits of this track quickly, as well as understand the best overtaking opportunities, explains the Brazilian. The most obvious places are likely to be the first and last turns. The circuit will require a lot of traction and braking stability, while energy recovery in the braking zones will help stabilize the car. The pit lane is also unique and requires a bit of practice to navigate. »

The drivers who will compete within the different teams have yet to be defined, before September 13, the date of the first competitive laps of these single-seaters powered by the electricity fairy.
