This decision stems from the surge in team budgets over the years, particularly at the instigation of large firms like Mercedes, Audi, and BMW, which have decided to withdraw more or less gradually from competition in recent seasons.
Thus, the teams will be able to spend 13 million euros per season in the period from 2022 to 2024 as written by the World Council of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) this Wednesday, December 15.
This budget will increase by two million euros for the 2024-25 season to allow the development of the future Gen 3.5 Evolution. This envelope will also include pilot salaries.
As for the manufacturers responsible for the power units, they will not be able to exceed 25 million euros in expenses over two consecutive seasons. Currently, budgets are around 40 million!
As for the program for the 2022 season, the organizers have seen double concerning the trips to Rome (Italy) and Berlin (Germany), which will receive two double headers. New York (United States), London (Great Britain) and Seoul (South Korea) will also have the pleasure of hosting two ePrixes.
Once mentioned, the return of China to the FE calendar has been postponed.
