Portland, traditional meeting place ofIndyCar, will receive a completely different category on June 24. The largest city in Oregon (United States) will host the 12th round of the calendar of Formula E, updated after the World Motor Sport Council which was held this Wednesday in Bologna. Portland therefore joins Hyderabad (India), Cape Town (South Africa) and Sao Paulo (Brazil) among the new cities where the electric championship will take place in 2023.

The same circuit as IndyCar… but different

Formula E has raced in the United States every year since the inaugural season in 2015, with the exception of the COVID-marred Season 6 in 2020. Long Beach, Miami and New York City have already hosted E-Prixes across the Atlantic. Formula E will race at Portland Raceway, the road circuit used in IndyCar, replacing the New York E-Prix. A modified version of the layout will be used, with reprofiling work planned for the Formula E configuration.

“We are thrilled to bring the inaugural Electric Motorsport World Championship to Portland for the first time this June, rejoiced Alberto Longo, co-founder and director of the Formula E championship. The city has a large number of passionate sports fans, as well as strong green credentials, making Portland a perfect host for the Formula E World Championship. The United States remains an important market for Formula E. We We are excited to maintain this essential presence and attract a new audience to the Pacific Northwest region in all-electric motorsports. »

Formula E calendar finally complete

The calendar is therefore finally complete since the 17th event, which remained to be determined, did not find a buyer and was finally deleted. Consequently, there will be no E-Prix in Paris despite the persistent rumors. There will therefore only be 16 events in 2023, located in 11 different cities.
